Indonesia today announced an intent to purchase two Scorpene Submarines from Naval Group of France.
French defence minister, Florence Parly tweeted, “Our cooperation also extends to the naval field: Indonesia has announced an intention to purchase two French-made “Scorpène” submarines.”
The Scorpene submarine decision was announced soon after a contract was signed to purchase 42 Rafale jets between Indonesia and France.
The new generation Scorpene diesel-electric submarines should help France to partly overcome the loss of the Australian contract.
For Indonesia the two submarines should help modernize its submarine fleet.
