Ukroboronprom State Corporation has announced that it will repair captured Russian tanks, armored vehicles and hand them over the Ukrainian Army for use against the Russians.
An unspecified number of Russian ground vehicles have been destroyed or captured by Ukrainian forces. Some reports put their number at 500 destroyed or captured. It helps that the former Soviet Bloc nation’s army is largely equipped with Soviet origin armored vehicles and tanks such as the T-72. Ukroboronprom has made it a business out of repairing Soviet origin equipment for international customers.
The repair and transfer of captured Russian land equipment had already been agreed upon by the Ukrainian General Staff, a Ukroboronprom statement said March 1.
In addition, during the last 4-5 days, it has transferred over 50 Ukrainian origin tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers and armored vehicles to the Ukrainian Army.
These include special, heavy-load vehicles and passenger cars — 45 items; mortars and grenade launchers — 574 items; other weapons of various calibers — over 170 items; missiles — about 600 items; ammunition — 105, 000 items; explosive devices — 12 000 items.
